Variety is reporting that only weeks after being fired, former NBC Entertainment President, Kevin Reilly, has been hired by Fox to do the same job for them instead. For the second time.
On the upside, part of Mr. Reilly's duties will involve finding new ways to use Fox's considerable output online. Given Mr. Murdoch's seemingly bottomless pockets, could we hope this includes being the first network innovative enough to offer a 24/7 simulcast?
Sadly, enticing though that idea is, it's rather negated by the news that he's also required to find new ways to integrate advertising. All the Networks complain of falling profits caused by audiences having the bald-faced temerity to skip their nice, profitable adverts...And here we see the latest acolyte being required to induce even more of them. Slight logic problem?
So let's see if we're up to speed here? His tenure as NBC's Entertainment President resulted in an endless litany of vapid mediocrity, attracting ratings that read like a shoe size...And now Fox want to give him a seven-figure paycheck to work this same wondrous magic at their Net instead?
I'm fuzzy on the concept - What exactly is the current Hollywood euphemism for 'clueless dork'? And just how bad do you need to be at a job before you won't get hired by a US Network??
