Being a relatively new art-form, the public's admiration of those who practice the mystic art of blogging could be fairly assessed as somewhat less than universal. Despite the resulting affinity for sackcloth and gruel, when the chips are down those to whose broad shoulders this noble art form is presently entrusted genuinely appreciate the magic of Hollywood, and share an almost boundless respect those whose passion, drive and imagination recreate and re-invent it on an almost daily basis....Regardless of the reciprocal opinion.
This truth was once more, and quite memorably proven recently when Steven Spielberg’s offices at Paramount Studios were broken into and a large collection of computer hardware, plus over 2,000 photos from the set of 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull' were stolen.
Almost immediately, the lip-diddling in-breeds responsible for the heist started contacting various entertainment-related web sites, looking to make a quick buck. Reporters at TMZ.com were mulling the idea of posting some of the info when the studio's Lawyers arrived and advised them of the facts; TMZ immediately halted both publication, and payment.
Well-practiced plans were then put into effect by the FBI, and with the aid of an intrepid Blogger a simple 'sting' operation snared the thieves at the Standard Hotel in Los Angeles, at about 4pm PT last Monday.
Scale is a major factor in this event. Both the greed and stupidity implicit in its execution, and the relief at Paramount when their items were returned must almost defy measurement? The DNA of those who blog and those who steal is widely dissimilar, and this event once again proves it. Paramount's production schedule and Mr. Spielberg's peace of mind are now restored, and it's due in part to one member of a collective community whose followers are regarded by those in the industry it has once more served in terms that are far less than flattering.
With normality now mercifully restored, the release schedule for 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull' remains unaffected – it's still slated for May 22nd, next year. We can only hope this will be the first time anyone has the chance to learn its secrets.
